Calculus in Image Processing
Main Article Content
Abstract
Edge detection plays a fundamental role in Image Processing and the algorithms for detecting image edges use the concepts of function, derivative and gradient. So it can be a good example of motivating app for students. The article shows how to model an image as a function and how to use the gradient to detect the edges of an image. Emphasis is placed on the transition from continuous to discrete and the need to understand the basic concepts of Calculus.
