Objetive and scope

El Cálculo y su Enseñanza is an international peer-reviewed publication that provides an academic forum for the presentation and discussion of the educational issues of the process of teaching and learning of mathematics and basic sciences at all educational levels, whether in university schools of science, engineering, architecture or social sciences and in secondary, primary and for any level and area. It presents ideas, concepts, proposals and models for the international educational community that contribute to the promotion and improvement of the teaching and learning of basic sciences and mathematics in diverse contexts and latitudes.

The papers can contribute to both the theory and practice of disciplines. They can also have a robust component in mathematics or science, as long as the educational purpose is not lost and vice versa, the methodological aspects, pedagogical, etc., can be favored, as long as the mathematical theme is clear and relevant.

The paper is not limited to the role of a vehicle for communication between specialists. It also has the particular purpose of influencing the environment of teachers of mathematics and science, so that in-depth knowledge of that environment is indispensable. Consequently, studies that take a deep look at deficiencies, difficulties, and so on, both among students and among teachers in a certain educational setting are welcome, especially when there is a field exploration with relevant data.

The articles are intended to make proposals, especially for our Ibero-American reality and may be of interest not only to other researchers in mathematical education and sciences of the same specialty, but also to professors in service at the corresponding level. Consequently, research articles, whether basic or applied, must respond to an educational problem (explicit in them) and must communicate, in intelligible language, their findings and proposals, seeking, in the case of findings, to convince teachers of their relevance and, with the proposals, to enrich and improve the educational process, inviting such teachers to experiment with them, reformulate them or extend them.

Evaluation process

Manuscripts submitted to the journal are initially evaluated to assess their relevance by the Editorial Committee, notifying within twenty-five days of their acceptance to proceed to the academic peer review. Manuscripts submitted for blind peer review by experts in the field are evaluated by three referees. The journal does not charge a fee for the submission, arbitration, processing, publication or distribution of articles.

If the opinions of the specialists are contradictory, the article will be submitted to the Editorial Board, or an additional evaluation will be requested.

  • The decision may be: Accepted, Conditioned or Rejected.

The opinion shall be communicated in writing exclusively to the corresponding author, within a period not exceeding two months from the date of receipt of the original.

Once the opinion of the article has been extended to the corresponding author, the latter must respond to the editorial committee within the period established in each case. Otherwise the article will be automatically rejected.

Before the final publication of the article, the Editorial Committee of the journal, will send to the authors proofs of edition of the manuscript. These proofs must be sent with changes of form, but not of substance, to the journal within a period of no more than five working days

Before the publication of the article, the authors must issue a letter of transfer of rights and approval of the content of the article, in the format that the journal will provide for this purpose.

The publication of the journal is six-monthly, for such reason depending on the date of receipt of the article, will be the turn that will be granted for its publication. However, once the letter of acceptance of the article has been granted, the authors may report it as "article accepted in press".
